🌸 Reflecting on Sadness: Finding Light with God 🌸

Sometimes we all feel sad. For some of us, sadness feels like a little raincloud passing by. For others, it can feel like a heavy storm. However it shows up for you — it’s okay. Sadness is a real emotion, and it’s part of being human.

When I feel sad, my mind often races. It can go from 0 to 100 very quickly, almost like being strapped into a rollercoaster. My thoughts speed off to the worst possible place, and I can feel my whole body react. Sometimes I freeze, other times I fight. That’s called the fight, flight, or freeze response — it’s part of our survival instinct.

But here’s the truth: while this response is natural, it doesn’t have to control us. Sadness can feel overwhelming, even uncontrollable at times. And yet, when I remember that I don’t carry my burdens alone, something shifts.

✨ Where God Meets Our Sadness

When sadness feels too big for me, I remember that I need something — Someone — greater than myself. That’s where God comes in.

Jesus reminds us that we don’t have to carry the weight of sadness alone. He carried our burdens on the cross, so we could find comfort and peace in Him.

📖 Psalm 34:18 (KJV): “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

📖 Matthew 11:28 (KJV): “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Even if we feel alone in our sadness, we are not truly alone. God is near, and He walks with us through every storm.

🌱 Reflecting on Sadness

When sadness comes, one way I find hope is through reflection. Reflection helps us pause, understand, and learn from what we’re feeling. It’s like shining a little light on the shadows.

For me, I like to journal and ask myself gentle questions:

  • When did I start to feel sad?

  • Where was I?

  • Who was with me?

  • What thoughts ran through my mind?

  • Was there a trigger or memory connected to this?

When I trace things back, step by step, I often discover something important about myself. Reflection helps me prepare for the future, so if something similar happens again, I can notice it earlier, pause, and choose a different response.

It’s a blessing God has given us — the ability to reflect, to think, to “rejig and reassess.” That’s how we grow in strength, wisdom, and resilience.

📖 Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV): “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

🌈 A Gentle Reminder

Sadness may feel heavy, but it will not last forever. God promises hope and joy.

📖 Psalm 30:5 (KJV): “…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

Your emotions are not a sign of weakness — they are a reminder that you are alive, that God is real, and that He cares deeply about you.

If you are feeling very sad or worried, please remember: you don’t have to go through it alone. Talk to a parent, teacher, or trusted adult. God placed people in our lives to walk alongside us.

🐝 Closing Thought

Reflecting on sadness is not about pretending the storm isn’t real. It’s about noticing the rain, learning from it, and remembering that after the rain, the sun will shine again.

So next time sadness visits, pause, reflect, and remember this:
You are loved. You are capable. And with God, you are made to flourish. 🌸🐝
